A person who contaminated treats with sedative and gave them to children at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males both nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from that region, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.
However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court the defendant had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated materials including baby oil, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his stepson notified the police about his suspicions.
She said the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member called the law enforcement again.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
